About MJCSMaureen Joy Charter School is a K-8 tuition-free Public Charter School located in the historic East Durham Community in Durham, N.C. Established in 1997 originally as Durham Community Charter School. With current enrollment for 2021/22 of 645 students. Our Athletics Programs have expanded over the years, we now field 11 competitive interscholastic athletic teams and 1 year long competitive step team at Maureen Joy Charter School. Home of the Jaguars, Maureen Joy Charter School student-athletes are students first with strong academic focus.
Student athletes at Joy see themselves as ambassadors for our school and represent themselves as such on the athletic field of play. Ms. Robinson was known for infectious laugh, big personality and commitment to safety and overall well being of everyone who walked the holds of Maureen Joy Charter School.
As a Grandmother, Mother and Supporter of Joy students past and present she remained unchanged in her love for Joy and the many branches she help to nurture over her tenure. With heavy hearts we have lost this pioneer and pillar of Maureen Joy Charter School as she passed away. We are reminded of her commitment to our kids and it continues to drive us. Ms. Robinson was truly influential in the growth of Joy Athletics over it's maturation over here 15 years. She made sure that her Transportation Engineers could safely transport athletes to and from practices, games, tournaments, championships and other events. On behalf of the Athletic Department , Ms.Robinson we salute you , we love you and we will continue to cultivate the seeds that you watered each day you walked into the building! " Coach K"2nd Annual Coach Kirkling Classic : RETURNS!Coach K Classic Director and Staff are working on our 2nd Annual Coach K Classic Middle School Basketball Tournament. After a 2 year hiatus, this Tournament to honor the legacy of the late O'neil Kirkling is slated to return in January 2023! Tournament Officials will be in contact with Middle School AD's, towards end of December 2022.

Diona wilson chose from some of the top colleges, and universities in the nation ( University of Alabama, Tuskegee University, Hampton University, Spellman College)- Ultimately Diona would select the the real "HU" Howard University! With one of the strongest Alumni basis in the country this incoming Howard Bison is in great hands. Fayetteville State 22' (MJCS Alumni C/O 2014') Congratulations to Darius Robinson aka " DROB" , has been named Head Coach of Believe Then Swish Prep Durham, NC : Post Grad Basketball , Darius also serves as the Assistant Coach for AAU Powerhouse Durham Hurricanes! Darius earned Varisty Letters in both Basketball and Football at Northern Durham in Durham, NC! Also earning Basketball Scholarship to Roanake University 2018 , Transferred as walk on to Fayetteville State University Broncos Football Team The 2019'. Both St. Andrews Knights Dyvai Robinson and Judah Day are former MJCS Jaguars Alumni 2016'. They would met back up to play collegiate sports at St. Andrews University. Dyvai Robinson a standout Track & Field Athlete from Durham Hillside High School and Judah Day a dominant Football Cornerback from Apex High School. Both Athletes look forward to continuing their Athletic and Academic Success at St. Andrews University!
